A lacquered chest of drawers 1920
To mark the centenary of Art Deco, Moissonnier is honoring its 1920 lacquered chest of drawers, inspired by a model signed Paul Follot, one of the “inventors” of this emblematic movement. An Art Deco rarity in the collection, this piece combines luxury, innovation and craftsmanship, embodying the daring spirit of these particularly creative years.
Paul Follot, a French cabinetmaker and interior designer, is regarded as one of the founding fathers of Art Deco. His designs, characterised by geometric lines, stylised floral motifs and ostentatious luxury, had a profound influence on 20th-century design. This original chest of drawers, designed for his Parisian flat, is distinguished by a striking central floral motif, symbolic of an era when art and industry came together to create unique pieces.
Moissonnier has reinterpreted this major piece :
- Beech wood for the structure,
- Fluted legs and finely carved stringcourses,
- Trompe-l’oeil painted Portor marble top,
- High-gloss black lacquer, a demanding technique that requires perfect mastery for an impeccable finish.
This half-moon chest of drawers features four doors (a central opening and two side doors) and a central drawer, offering both functionality and elegance.
