Moissonnier’s finishing workshops are where furniture is given the patina of age. The wood is worn along the edges and aged with knocks and traces of woodworm. Once sanded, the lacquered models are given several coats of matt acrylic paint. The painted wood is then shaded before a layer of shellac is applied, forming a glaze. Wax adds the final touch.
Mat patinas
In applying a matt glaze, a coat of slightly dark paint is first applied with a brush, before the wood is then given a coat of matt varnish.
This finish is popular for its decidedly modern matt appearance, with a pallet of muted, powdery shades.
